Steven has nearly 30 years of South Asian investing and operating experience, leading ground-breaking transactions across multiple sectors for both private equity players and major corporates. This has involved more than 50 transactions through all stages of investing, exiting and deal types including early stage, growth, privatisations, and buyouts. At present he is non-executive Chairman, Ironwood Capital Partners, a prominent Sri Lankan private equity fund; and continues to hold various Board and Advisory positions.

For the previous seven years, Steven was Group CEO Hemas Holdings plc leading the transformation from a diversified conglomerate to Sri Lanka’s largest private healthcare and consumer goods player with market-leading positions in hospitals, pharmaceuticals and personal care.

From 2004 to 2011 he was a partner in Actis LLP, the leading emerging markets private equity investor, actively investing, managing and exiting the South Asian portfolio. Prior to that, he had 16 years of global emerging markets investing experience with CDC in Eastern and Southern Africa and South Asia.

From the mid 90’s he has served as a non-executive director on many leading Indian and Sri Lankan businesses. Steven has spent most of the last 25 years living and working in South Asia and continues to be based in Colombo.

He has a degree in Economics from Queens University Belfast, is a qualified accountant and a Masters in Development Studies from the University of Melbourne.
